FOOD INTOLERANCE TESTING

A study conducted by Allergy UK suggests that up to 45% of the UK population is affected by some kind of food intolerance or sensitivity.  Food sensitivities are caused by an inappropriate immune response to offending foods.  The foods that can cause these reactions vary from person to person and can cause a variety of symptoms.

Conditions linked to food intolerance:

  • Digestive problems - such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), heartburn, bloating etc
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Tiredness, chronic fatigue, foggy head
  • Inability to lose or control weight
  • Frequent colds and infections
  • Skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, urticaria and acne
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Insomnia
  • General poor health
  • PMS
  • Candida Albicans
  • Poor general nutrition

If you have suffered with one or more of the above conditions for some time then there is a strong possibility you are having an adverse reaction to foods. Our nutritionist can test for food intolerances at our practice in Notting Hill , London.

The Test

Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) (Blood Test)

All that is needed is a small pinprick of blood and our nutritionist can let you know what foods you are reacting to, and just as importantly, which foods you should be free to eat. The nutritional therapist can then work out a personalized eating plan for you.

Cambridge Nutritional Sciences (CNS) developed the UK's first Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method for food IgG antibody detection in 1994. The test works by measuring food specific IgG and if there is an increase in IgG against specific foods.

Until very recently the only way that you could be tested for food IgG reactions was by sending a sample of blood to a laboratory to have the test done. CNS have now developed a ELISA blood test for use by nutritionists at their practice. This gives you the advantage of receiving the results within 45 minutes of taking the test, rather than waiting, in some cases, for weeks to receive the results.

  • Food IgG results for 59 common foods
  • Test is performed at our clinic by our nutritionist
  • Results are available within 45 minutes
  • Fresh blood sample, so no deterioration due to postal delays
  • Inexpensive
  • You can begin to alter your diet immediately
